Hello, My name is Melissa, but I go by M.Tan. This was a nickname I had back in college and it has followed me ever since. I went to school for journalism and loved the art of photography. From there, I pursued freelance photography work on the side. I did this for several years up until the global pandemic hit us. Knowing that the world of photography was drastically changing, I felt the need to put down the camera for a bit and pursue a new hobby.

In December 2019 as I was actively pursuing my freelance wedding photography, I stumbled across a beautiful wall hanging on Instagram. I had no clue what it was but I instantly went into journalist mode and dug for more information. I attempted to make a large wall hanging as my very first project. My goal was to create a wedding arch backdrop for a wedding stylized photoshoot. However, I did not finish the macrame wall hanging in time! I ended up renting one but then strived to improve my knots and work on additional projects. This particular wall hanging is still hanging on my bedroom wall because I left it unfinished. Now it is my go-to practice area when I need to work on a new knot or pattern.

I'm happily married to my husband Jon and we have three loving kids! They are my bonus children but love them all as my own. I met my husband in 2017. We married within the next year and I became an instant mom of 3. The kids' ages are 12, 10, and 7.
I work full time as an Office Manager for our roofing business called Roofscapes NW, Inc. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, playing golf, learning calligraphy and working on macrame art. We recently added a family member to our home; our GoldenDoodle named Murphy! He was born on June 1, 2020.
