Macrame Propagation Station

Updated: Jul 27, 2021

Hello Fellow Plant Lovers!

Are you tired of having plant cuttings all around your home? Do you need a central location to keep track of your propagation?

I came across this photograph on Pinterest and loved the idea.

However, I thought to myself; what if I add macrame to it?! Then voila! I had a lightbulb moment.

I took my experience making a macrame shelf and tweaked this design. I found a 12-piece test tube set off of Amazon.com and created 12 1" drill holes into pieces of lumber.

Here's the behind the scenes photographs of the making of my hanging propagation station:

Step 1 - Cut wood into custom size. These were cut 18" wide and I drilled four 1" holes in each board. On the far ends, I drilled two 4mm holes on each side (four in total)

Step 2 - Sand the boards on all sides

Step 3 - Take two extra long cords of macrame rope and secure to metal ring to start the project.

Step 4 - String macrame rope (4mm) downboth sides through the small holes.

Step 5 - Create macrame spiral knots to your custom length (shown on the left, they are about 10.5" long)

Step 6 - Repeat these steps until you reach the third tier. The third tier, I stopped the length a bit short to create a tassel at the bottom, which is secured with a gathering knot.

Step 7 - Add a rubber stopper to each test tube and place in the drilled holes.

Lastly - add in water and plant cuttings. Below is my final product!
