When I first starting this project, I accidentally used the wrong piece of driftwood. I originally used a wavy driftwood piece but realized I needed straight starting point so the flag could look like a flag and not one that's jumbled up!
This project used 3 mm single ply cord for the initial hanging cords shown in the natural white color.

Most of my work is freestyle and I don't work with exact measurements. So, when I worked on this, I guessed how much blue I wanted to use so I could fit 50 stars on that section without making it look funny.

The blue and red cords are also 3 mm single ply cord. These sections were all done by using vertical half hitch knots.
This literally took forever to do!

When I completed the blue sections and the red stripes, I used a piece of fishing line to secure the two sections together in the middle point. After all the vertical half hitch knots were done, the next step was to fill in the white stripes.
The white stripes were filled in by using a "weaving" type method. The string was weaved in and out of the gaps to make it look like the photograph shown.

Next, I laid the project down to figure out the spacing of the 50 small, wooden stars. After lining them up, I used super glue to secure the stars to the blue section of the flag.
Once that part was completed, I created a bottom line of square knots to complete the project. The hanging was trimmed at an angle to add a little design. The bottom ends were brushed to create fringe. Here is the final product below!
